Teak (known scientifically as Tectona grandis) is a large, tropical deciduous hardwood tree native to South and Southeast Asia. Renowned for its superior timber durability, natural oils, and water resistance, it grows up to 40 meters tall and features massive leaves and fragrant white flower clusters. Physical Characteristics Height: Reaches 30 to 40 meters (90 to 130 feet) tall. Leaves: Very large, broad, oval-shaped leaves that feel rough and are hairy underneath. Flowers: Small, fragrant, white blossoms grouped in large pyramid clusters. Bark: Rough, yellowish-brown to greyish bark with shallow vertical fissures. Wood Properties & Uses Durability: Highly resistant to rot, fungi, termites, and weather. Aroma: Freshly milled wood has a leather-like, pleasant, oily scent. Color: Golden-yellow heartwood that deepens to dark brown over time. Applications: Premium outdoor furniture, boat and ship building, flooring, and heavy construction. Growth Requirements Climate: Thrives in warm tropical monsoon regions with high annual rainfall. Sunlight: Requires direct, overhead sunlight and does not tolerate shade. Soil: Prefers deep, fertile, and very well-drained soils; fails in waterlogged or heavy clay area
